A picture is worth a thousand words (almost)

Girl in the woods

Girl in the woods

A picture can be worth a thousand words. Evoke specific emotions. Stir up feelings from deep within. To me, this picture says:

chance, precipice, waiting

beginning, start, new journey

awaiting, open doors, discover

fear, hesitation, expectation

wonderment, anticipation, bewilderment

timid, stepping, crossing

beginning, carrying forth, starting again

continuation, journey, open arms

strong, strength, holding

step forth, begin, listening

hearing, seeing, opening

creating, leading, following

wondering, uncertainty, adventure

breath, depth, silence

breathe.

What does it mean to you?

I write because…

Song inside you
I write because…

“I want to be as vulnerable and raw as possible so people feel less alone. I want to make people happy or laugh, even if it’s at my own expense.” Alexi Wasser, from “I’m Boy Crazy,” excerpted from #GIRLBOSS
Song inside you
  .
There is a voice inside of me that needs to be shared. Openly, plainly, honestly and humorously. What is the point of hiding your voice? Be bold and share it with the world. Do good and good will come to you.
 ..
Writing is also a way for me to find and understand my true, authentic voice. To help me follow my truth, my dreams and my heart.
 .
I’m especially excited to write at this point in my life because I’m going through a huge transition period. I am moving from San Francisco, where I’ve been the past year and a half, back to San Diego (my hometown) in December. I’m so happy with this decision. It was bittersweet to make, but it was so plainly and easily the right choice for me.
  .
I don’t have a job or an apartment yet but, as nerve-wracking as that is sometimes, it’s more exciting than anything. I have a completely new, blank chapter in front of me. One that I can completely write with my own unique voice and truth. One that I can design on my own. I have an outline and idea of what I want my life to be like and what I’ll be doing, but honestly…nothing is set in stone. I can do anything.
  .
Again, nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time ;)
  .
Expect funny, self-help and self-empowerment topics, personal adventures and stories, wisdom and my own musings on life and fulfilling our purpose. At the very least, I want to put a smile on your face, to make you laugh and feel familiarity.
 .
Lindsey Social Media ManagerI want to be an encouraging and supportive voice for any young person going through a transition period or who need a little inspiration and motivation to make things happen…things THEY want, dreams they want to achieve, adventures they want to pursue.
  .
I hope to grow a large, engaged, positive and hilariously badass audience. I love connecting with new people, so comment away!! I want my blog to be a platform for people to learn, connect, share with one another and feel they are in a supportive, safe environment.
  .
My goal is to write consistently and grow a strong community on this blog, but to also branch out into writing books, selling merchandise, guest posting, writing for magazines, hosting weekly podcasts and vlogs and speaking at events.

Come along for the ride! :)

Need your daily dose of vitamins? Drink Vitamin Water!

Vitamin Water
Vitamin WaterMarketing is a very powerful thing. But being a conscious consumer and being aware of what you put into your body is an even more powerful thing.
.
I was at the grocery store last night when I saw these Vitamin Waters on the shelves. I had just finished dinner and a margarita with my friend at a nearby restaurant, so I was feeling a little feisty…thus me actually taking a moment to look at the ingredients in a “Vitamin” Water and seethe silently in the aisle. …Also why I decided to post this *today* and not last night in the moment. 😂
.

You would think “Vitamin Water” is relatively healthy. Getting ALL your vitamins in one deliciously flavored bottle. I mean, it’s called “Vitamin Water” and many of them are super-charged with things like acai and pomegranate, “vital-t” and squeezed lemonade. The colors are also pretty snazzy too…

But look BEYOND the label and marketing…this Vitamin Water is one of the furthest things from healthy.

32g of SUGAR
#1 ingredient? Water.
#2 ingredient? Sugar (“crystalline fructose”)
#3 ingredient? Sugar (“cane sugar”)
LESS THAN .5% of …….a long list of “vitamins” and “natural flavors” (aka not natural flavors)
.
LESS THAN .5% is the “vitamin” part of this drink.
.
The American Heart Association says the MAXIMUM amount of *added* sugars you should eat in a day is 25g for women and 37.5g for men. (Although, in my opinion, you should always keep added sugar intake as low as you can.)
.
This drink has 32g of sugar in it. ONE drink. That doesn’t include anything else you are eating that day.

Guys. If you eat a relatively healthy diet throughout the day, get your servings of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein and good fats…you will have ALL of these vitamins and SO much more. Bonus? You’re not putting crap in your body.

Ideally, we would avoid things like “Vitamin Water” and everything else with processed sugar. But I know that’s not realistic for many of us (including me!), nor is it fun.

I’m all about BALANCE. Be conscious and informed about what you put in your body. Eat as much fresh, unpackaged foods as possible. Drink your Shakeology. But also enjoy going out for ice cream, having a drink with your friend, baking your significant other’s favorite cookies (maybe with a healthier recipe?? ;) ), eating greasy pizza at 1am on a Friday night. But don’t make it a daily thing.

Health is about balance. Healthy comes from knowing your body and knowing what you put into your body. Be CONSCIOUS of marketing and labeling and understand that you’ll probably want to avoid stuff like “Vitamin Water,” or drink once in a great while.

Hell, make your own “Vitamin Water” by putting fresh fruit slices and berries in your water. I LOVE putting lemon and lime or raspberries in my water.

Eat real, fresh, whole foods and that will be all the “Vitamin Water” your body will need <3

When It’s Ok to Ditch “The Plan”

Granada

Granada“Friends and partners to celebrate life with, abundance to enhance any adventure, and mountains to perch atop, Lindsey, all arrive when you dwell upon the celebration, the adventure, and the view. Not names, lotteries, or the path you think wisest. Yes, Lindsey, you can have whatever you want, anything. Just don’t confuse what you want with how you’re going to get it.” –The Universe

THAT LAST LINE THOUGH. Once again, The Universe popping his/her/its(?) sweet head in my email inbox with a reminder to not focus on HOW to make things happen.

Focus on the WHAT, and the HOW will come to you.

And I’m pretty certain the path you take to get to your WHAT will be full of unicorns, baby animals, organic dark chocolate growing from trees and a free membership to the wine club of your choice and Uptown Funk playing on repeat.

Or maybe that’s just me….

Do you ever get caught up in the HOW to make things happen? So much that it hinders you from actually doing anything productive to reach your goals? Your dreams?

It holds us back from taking action to actualize our dreams because we think we need to first figure out HOW we’re going to make it happen…that we first need to figure out a very detailed plan and THEN we can start doing.

Screw that. That’s a one-way express ticket to Stagnant-Do-Nothingville.

Just DO. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a clue HOW you’re going to make your WHAT happen.

If you start to take action in ways that feel aligned with your soul and higher purpose, and take actions that make you a little scared (that means you’re outside of your comfort zone- huzzah!), the HOW will appear and the path to your what will become more clear.

Take that first step. Doesn’t matter what it is. But take it. Even a little baby step will make a significant impact. And it will also tell The Universe you’re not screwing around anymore and you’re ready to receive more clarity on your HOW.

What step will you take today!? Share in the comments below!!

5 Secrets to Manifesting and Visualizing #likeaboss

Lindsey Social Media Manager
Today we are discussing one of my favorite topics: manifestation and visualization. I LOVE talking about this shizzle and I know it can be very powerful if done consistently.
1. Write down everything that you DO want. So often we focus on what we don’t want, that we actually aren’t 100% sure on what we do want and would like to manifest. Get cozy with all the nitty, gritty details that you DO want. Down to the color of your dream sofa, what your co-worker’s name will be, what pictures are on your desk and what nickname your awesome-sauce partner calls you.
.
2. Create a vision board. Be creative! Cut out pictures and paste them on another paper that you hang somewhere and see ALL ZEE TIME! Make boards on Pinterest, make a collage for your desktop picture, make a picture for your phone. Be sure to include images, words and phrases that represent how you want to feel when you have manifested your goals and dreams. Connect your emotions to it all.

3. Talk in the present tense, like it’s already happened. I don’t want to hear anything along the lines of “If…” or “It would be great if….” “I don’t know if it will happen, but….” CHICA. It will happen. It’s already happening behind the scenes. So talk as if you have it all right now or it’s happening. Not “if,” but WHEN. ;)

4. Be grateful for what you DO have and what you are currently doing. I know, I know…you’re probably like, “SAY WHAT?” I know this is a hard one, but seriously, be grateful and show appreciation for what you do have and are currently doing. No matter how crappy, show up every day to work, your apartment, etc. like it’s the best thing ever and be ready and willing to give your 100%. This causes magical, karmic alignment and the Universe then is ready to provide when you’re appreciative of what you DO have.

5. Believe. Believe in yourself. Believe that you can achieve your goals and dreams. Cause you can. Always hold firm in the belief that you are amazing, you can and WILL achieve your goals and dreams and have the full capability to achieve all that you want to in your life. Your life is an unwritten script, a blank chapter, an un-molded piece of clay (anyone else get an image of Lucille Ball molding that clay in the one I Love Lucy episode??) Surround yourself with people or a community that believes in you and reminds you daily of your greatness and badassery.

SO. Which tip will you tackle this week? Which ones do you already do? Comment below! I can’t wait to hear from you!
